    </div><div> *A PASTOR’S BURDEN*</div><div>
</div><div>_It is advisable you read the text first_</div><div>
    </div><div>*TEXT:* 1 TIMOTHY 2: 9 – 15</div><div>
</div><div>1 Timothy 2:9-15</div><div>[9]In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array;</div><div>[10]But (which becometh women professing godliness) with good works.</div><div>[11]Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection.</div><div>[12]But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence.</div><div>[13]For Adam was first formed, then Eve.</div><div>[14]And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression.</div><div>[15]Notwithstanding she shall be saved in childbearing, if they continue in faith and charity and holiness with sobriety.</div><div>
</div><div>🔑📖KEY VERSE: _*”In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array” (1 TIMOTHY 2:9).*_</div><div>
</div><div>Powerful and wealthy women with a high social calling were a regular sight during youthful Timothy’s bishopric in Ephesus. They flaunted their opulence through showy and expensive apparel and hairdo. Their presence in the church caused much stir and stole away the attention of worshippers. It also made less financially endowed women to envy and desire worldly acquisitions. The stage also began to be set for immorality among the people. These economically strong women became proud and sought unscriptural feminism. As a result, the spirituality of the church at Ephesus became threatened.</div><div>
</div><div>Apostle Paul was alarmed. So, he wrote to Timothy instructing him to take steps to bring back the Ephesian women to their proper positions in the church. They must not emulate the exhibitionist lifestyle of their environment. Ephesus was the city of promiscuity. It was the home of the goddess Diana, whose worship bred temple harlots displaying provocative attire and braided hair. They were known for sacrilegious and carnal perversions that contradicted the teachings of the gospel.</div><div>
</div><div>The church was called out from this licentious culture and as an apostle, Paul had the responsibility to warn the sheepfold against a return to that past.</div><div>
</div><div>A shepherd must not spare the rod of correction, no matter whose ox is gored. If he wants to please God who gave him the office, then he must deliver the whole truth about the qualifications for heaven. The abode of God is meant for only those who reject the sinful practices of the world.</div><div>
</div><div>✍🏽THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: _*A true preacher must be burdened about a perishing soul.*_</div><div>
</div><div>📜THE BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: *PROVERBS 9-11*📜</div><div>
    </div><div> *MEDITATION*</div><div>
</div><div>*Scriptural rules guiding christian (women) dressings*</div><div>
</div><div>*1. The rules*</div><div>Apart from the scriptural fact that women must not wear men’s apparel for distinction according to creation (Deuteronomy 22:), the Bible only gives guides of what to put on and a godly lady should often ask questions about the appropriateness or otherwise of any adornment.</div><div>a. Is it modest?</div><div>It must be void of demonstration or show of wealth or *poverty* regardless of the status of the woman, v9. Dress simply. </div><div>b. Does it portray a high look?</div><div>There are dressings that manifest a proud, noisy and loud outlook which obviously are inconsistent with the principle of humility expected of a godly woman right from creation, v9.</div><div>c. Does it reflect soberness?</div><div>Thoughtful actions, reactions and reflections which are manifested in quietness and self control must guard the dressings of the female. Dressing to attract, distract “kill” or seduce is against the principle of pleasing God which should be the motivation of all our actions and adornment. Dressing should not be motivated by a show of beauty, positions or manifestation of poverty or ugliness. All should dress to glorify God. Jesus, for example, dressed in such a way that it was difficult for the Pharisees and His accusers from distinguishing Him from the other disciples.</div><div>
</div><div>*Questions*</div><div>Why do you think the Holy Spirit put emphasis on women adornment as against men’s adornment for Christians?</div><div>
</div><div>*Note*</div><div>a. These Christian adornment principles apply to men too. However, Christian women are more susceptible to ungodly or worldly dressings.</div><div>b. They are commanded because the rules are only consistent with the recreated nature of a believer and are needed for pleasing God and making heaven.</div><div>c. They are not only meant for religious occasions but should be the lifestyle of every believer at all times.</div><div>
</div><div>*2. An application*</div><div>In order to avoid misunderstanding, the Holy Spirit gave a practical application which is not exhaustive.</div><div>a. NO to broided hair, v9. Why?</div><div>The broided hair at that time had to do with expensive, highly decorated, flashy and distractive hairdos at that time. It does not show modesty, shamefacedness and soberness.</div><div>b. NO to gold, pearls or costly array, v9. Why? Use the rules above to judge.</div><div>
</div><div>*Note* In case of doubts on any choice of adornment, always choose the option that is not subject to controversy and questioning. This is the Bible principle for heaven bound Christians. “If meat will make my brother to stumble, I will stop eating meat”.</div><div>
</div><div>*3. Other rules for Christian women*</div><div>a. Godly dressing with emphasis on good works including character are expected, v10.</div><div>b. Submission to the rulership of men is commanded. Women can talk, preach, teach, ask questions, contribute to discussion only on permission by the husband or leading men. They must not be proud, soberless usurpers of the authorities of men? vv10-13. This is for the church and Christian homes.</div><div>
</div><div>*Question*</div><div>Give three reasons the Bible gave why submission of women to men leaders (and of course women leaders) is paramount, vv13,14. Can you add more reasons?</div><div>
</div><div>*Note* All the rules are based on the composition of women right from creation and any rebellion against them is an indication of unconverted nature or carnality.</div><div>
</div><div>*Prayer points*</div><div>Ask for grace and touch of God in your heart to be conformable to the original purpose or creation🙏</div><div>Ask for power to be able to distinguish yourself from the worldly without being ashamed🙏</div><div>Ask for more grace to be full and known for good works🙏</div><div>Pray that our godly women will have the Christian graces needed to show forth only the glory of God and never to be conformed to this world🙏</div><div>
