*DANGER OF ACCULTURATION*
*TEXT*: DEUTERONOMY 18:9-14
When thou art come into the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee, thou shalt not learn to do after the abominations of those nations.
10 There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch.
11 Or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer.
12 For all that do these things are an abomination unto the LORD: and because of these abominations the LORD thy God doth drive them out from before thee.
13 Thou shalt be perfect with the LORD thy God.
14 For these nations, which thou shalt possess, hearkened unto observers of times, and unto diviners: but as for thee, the LORD thy God hath not suffered thee so to do.

KEY VERSE:_*”When thou art come into the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee, thou shalt not learn to do after the abominations of those nations” (DEUTERONOMY 18:9).*_One of the first ports of call of those who destroyed the Roman Empire was the culture of the people. As the invaders entered Rome, they wiped out works of art, books and centres of drama and sporting shows. All these formed the civilisation the Romans exported to the world to make them great. Capturing the political leadership of the state without subduing their culture was dangerous as it amounted to leaving the source and ethos of their pride and spirit intact.
Long before the fate that befell the Romans, the Israelites were warned by the Lord to jealously guard their way of life as His chosen people. God described the customs of the inhabitants Israel was to displace as “abominations”. They observed the times instead of the laws of God. They fraternised with wizards and those who consulted the dead and sacrificed their children to idols. God said He drove the Canaanites out because of this ungodly culture. They must similarly abhor these practices. Embracing their culture was the short route to their own destruction.
The devil is holding the world in his deadly grip as a result of his assault on its customs, religion, entertainment, sports, politics, corporate business, education, professions, etc. The world has left the Lord outside these platforms of human activities. Those who indulge in ungodly practices will definitely incur God’s wrath except they repent.
The Lord’s plea today, as it was in the time of Israel on their way to Canaan, is for believers to do away with “the abominations of those nations.” The call is more relevant now and strictly to be obeyed because of the subtle nature of Satan’s activities in the 21st century. Thus, we must watch over our lives so we do not slide back into the sinful practices of the world we have left.

*1. Satanic specialisations*
Satan trained his agents in different areas of specialisations. Some look innocent and deceitfully helpful but they are wicked agents of hell.
a. Those who burn or command others to burn their sons or daughters as sacrificial offerings for one supernatural favour or the other, v10. Jeremiah 19:5. Many Israelites cruelly and heartlessly did this.
b. Anyone who practises divination or tells fortunes or interprets omens. This appears innocent. Paul was confronted with one of them who was pretentiously prophesying in support of the gospel message until Paul cast out the spirit of divination, v10, Acts 16:16-20. This spirit is common in many religious cycles where they are mistaken for ministering spirits.
c. A wizard practices spiritism. Their male counterparts are witches. King Saul in his depression and apostasy went in the night to seek help from the popular witch of Endor, v10, I Samuel 28:7-28. She was able to conjure a spirit that appears to know fully his history and spoke authoritatively as from God. Yet she was a witch. Many ministers and prophets in the church of God have these spirits.
d. Necromancers are those who could communicate with the dead. An example is the witch above.
*Question*
a. Are you inquisitive to study and probe into those specialised areas of spiritism and know more?
The Bible says NO. You rather know more of the word of God and Jesus. Check Ephesians 5:11,12, Matthew 11:28. Jesus said “learn of ME” not of spiritism. Just like many encountered Christ while researching Christ, many also get possessed with demons while researching abominable practices. Be warned.
*2. Stern separation*
a. God clearly said they are abominations, v12.
b. He commanded that believers should not give time to learn about how they operate either from the internet, social media, literature etc., v9.
c. How does God treat abominable people? He drives them away from His presence and fellowship and throws them in afflictions and hell if there is no repentance.
*3. Sensible safeguard*
a. Just like many covenant people in Israel were deceived into those abominations, the devil has also penetrated every church with these abominations and you must be on the alert, prayerful and discerning not to ignorantly go into close relationships and reveal your secrets to such people.
b. Spiritism goes along with spirituality. Those abominable people in the church often deceive people through their so-called spirituality. Beware for “Satan himself disguise as angels of light”?🤷♂️
c. Many ministers are also manifesting gifts which are not of God that only the prayerful, discerning and careful will be able to detect. “By the fruits (purity or lack of it) ye shall know them”; not by their gifts please.
*PRAYER POINTS*
Holy Ghost fire, purge me of all fakeness, filthiness and foolishness that dull spiritual sensitivity🙏
Lord, I ask for the Spirit of discernment and fire that will make it uncomfortable for me to fellowship with abominable people🙏
Lord, I ask for that fire that will make abominable people to be running away from me🙏
Holy Spirit, send your fire, expose and purge my church of all abominable people and ministers🙏
