    </div><div> *NEW GODS, NEW WOES!*</div><div>
</div><div>_It is advisable you read the text first_</div><div>
    </div><div>📜TEXT:JUDGES 5:1-9📜</div><div>
</div><div>Judges 5:1-9</div><div>[1]Then sang Deborah and Barak the son of Abinoam on that day, saying,</div><div>[2]Praise ye the LORD for the avenging of Israel, when the people willingly offered themselves.</div><div>[3]Hear, O ye kings; give ear, O ye princes; I, even I, will sing unto the LORD; I will sing praise to the LORD God of Israel.</div><div>[4]LORD, when thou wentest out of Seir, when thou marchedst out of the field of Edom, the earth trembled, and the heavens dropped, the clouds also dropped water.</div><div>[5]The mountains melted from before the LORD, even that Sinai from before the LORD God of Israel.</div><div>[6]In the days of Shamgar the son of Anath, in the days of Jael, the highways were unoccupied, and the travellers walked through byways.</div><div>[7]The inhabitants of the villages ceased, they ceased in Israel, until that I Deborah arose, that I arose a mother in Israel.</div><div>[8]They chose new gods; then was war in the gates: was there a shield or spear seen among forty thousand in Israel?</div><div>[9]My heart is toward the governors of Israel, that offered themselves willingly among the people. Bless ye the LORD.</div><div>
</div><div>🔑📖KEY VERSE: _*”They chose new gods; then was war in the gates: was there a shield or spear seen among forty thousand in Israel?” (JUDGES 5:8).*_</div><div>
</div><div>Hideyoshi, a Japanese warlord who ruled over Japan in the late 1500s, commissioned a colossal statue of Buddha for a shrine in Kyoto. It took 50,000 men five years to build, but the work had scarcely been completed when the earthquake of 1596 brought the roof of the shrine crashing down and wrecked the statue. In a rage, Hideyoshi shot an arrow at the fallen colossus, “I put you here at great expense,” he shouted, “and you can’t even look after your own temple.”</div><div>
</div><div>From the text, Deborah and Barak sang to God’s glory who had given Israel victory over Sisera and his host. She highlighted things that gave rise to their erstwhile captivity. The people chose new gods, thereby, forsaking the God of Israel. There was great insecurity in the land such that the highways were unoccupied, and the travellers walked through byways. They praised God for the people’s willingness to offer themselves for the war and extolled God’s great and mighty power to deal with the enemies of His people.</div><div>
</div><div>People suffer unnecessarily because they abandon God. Israel is a classic example. There was so much fear in the land because they failed to obey His word. In the world today, peace has become scarce because of the multiplicity of evil. Challenges abound in life, but the solution is in seeking God with all our heart, depending absolutely and waiting on Him until the change comes (Job 14:14).</div><div>
</div><div> He has promised to give “power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increases strength” (Isaiah 40:29). No one who truly trusts in God will be put to shame. Let us hold onto His promises in faith; no matter the difficulties, soon the dark nights shall turn to a bright sunny day.</div><div>
</div><div>✍🏽THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: _*Challenges abound in the world but solutions come from above.*_</div><div>
    </div><div>📜THE BIBLE IN ONE YEAR:*PROVERBS 15-17*📜</div><div>
    </div><div> *MEDITATION*</div><div>
</div><div> *Our modern gods and the effects*</div><div>
</div><div>*1. A rehearsal*</div><div>a. Israel “chose new gods” and the effects followed, v8.</div><div>b. The gods are things and people that distract and divert us from the living God and make Him secondary in our affairs. In the modern world, just like in the old, these include quests for power, popularity, prosperity and pleasure. They are generally difficult to detect except by the Holy Spirit.</div><div>c. Though to some extent they are legitimate, but the mind is obsessed with them and they are sought for other reasons at the expense of God and His perfect will. </div><div>d. They are deceitful and the carnal mind always bends under their pressure like the Israelites to their gods. In reality, the careless worship them as priority above God imperceptibly. </div><div>
</div><div>*Question*</div><div>Can you reflect sincerely on any idol you are pursuing at all costs above pursuing God’s glory and image? Be sincere please.</div><div>
</div><div>*2. A reflection*</div><div>a. There should be constant reflection on modern idols which unfortunately cannot really deliver when challenges knock. It is as a result of this powerlessness of the gods that many run to God when their gods fail them.</div><div>b. Deborah, after a careful reflection came up with the after effects of leaning on other gods by Israel.</div><div>* Highways were deserted because of the oppressors, and insecurity, v6.</div><div>*People resorted to jungle paths as a solution to insecurity, v6.</div><div>*Villages and cities were also deserted and people relocated to other places, v7.</div><div>*Oppressors confisticated all their weapons so that they had no weapons or power to fight back, v8. Spiritually, Satan still employs that strategy by subtly confisticating the spiritual weapons of God’s people and rendering them faithless, fearful and fireless. How about you?</div><div>
</div><div>*3. Our realisation*</div><div>a. The beginning of victory is by objectively realising the cause of the curse. Deborah did!</div><div>b. She realised the great deliverance and exhibited the attitude of praise, vv1,2. Do you have this attitude?</div><div>c. She was thoughtful of how God used heavy downpour and earthquake to give the weaponless Israel the victory, vv4,5.</div><div>d. She could also recall previous things that God did to Israel, v5. It is the person that knows how to think positively that will know how to show gratitude to God.</div><div>
</div><div>*Question*</div><div>Do you take time to reflect on God’s deliverances, now and in the past? Do you have the attitude of praise and worship before and after victory?</div><div>
</div><div>*Prayer points*</div><div>Ask God to search you out and reveal any modern god that may be lurking in your heart🙏 </div><div>Promise God to live for Him alone and ask for deep cleansing from the filthiness of other gods in your heart🙏</div><div>Ask that all weapons of war that the enemy has confisticated in your life will be returned by fire🙏</div><div>Pray for other brethren that have also unknowing lost their weapons of war🙏</div><div>
    </div><div>*HYMN* Praise Him, Praise Him</div><div>
    </div><div>*Good morning sir/ma.*</div>
