Igbinedion University Okada prioritises library information services for knowledge acquisition.

In the latest development at Igbinedion University Okada, Vice Chancellor Prof. Lawrence Ezemonye, PhD,FAS, highlighted the institution’s commitment to expanding collaborative research and enhancing knowledge production for national and global development. During the 23rd inaugural lecture, titled “Marketing of Library and Information Services: The Role of the Library,” delivered by Prof. Lucky Tijani Abdulsalami, the university’s librarian, the importance of investing in library information services was emphasised.
Prof. Abdulsalami emphasised that libraries play a crucial role in enlightening users about the significance of library use and in helping them develop skills to acquire information from various sources. He emphasised that libraries remain the best source of reliable information, enabling users to access essential information without misinformation. In order to maintain relevance, library professionals must stay ahead of their competitors.
Acknowledging the impact of mechanisation and computerization on librarianship, Prof. Abdulsalami stated that technological advancements have significantly influenced library services. Libraries are now focused on providing quick access to information, utilising modern technologies to empower users to seek relevant information. He also noted the growing need for electronic information over print, posing challenges for library professionals.
Vice Chancellor Prof. Lawrence Ezemonye highlighted the university’s efforts to align curricula with market needs through digital upskill courses, master classes, and the infusion of life skills into academic programs. The institution continues to foster collaboration with local and international partners to enhance knowledge production and contribute to national and global development.
