    US Consulate and Igbinedion University Okada Collaborate to Empower Students in Benin City

    In a remarkable display of partnership and commitment to education, the US Consulate, Lagos, in conjunction with Benin City Window on America (BCWOA) recently hosted a special event at Igbinedion University Okada, Benin City. The event, which took place on Wednesday, May 22nd, 2024, saw the Consul General, Mr. Will Stevens, and his esteemed delegation engaging with students and stakeholders.

    The Vice Chancellor of Igbinedion University, Prof Lawrence Ikechukwu Ezemonye, threw his support behind the initiative, with Prof Deborah Omotsefe Odejimi, Dean of the PG School, representing him at the event. Lady Celerina Ojomo, a Council member of the University, also graced the occasion, emphasizing the importance of collaboration in advancing educational opportunities.

    One of the key focuses of the event was the Girls Lead project, a joint effort between the US Consulate and BCWOA aimed at supporting girls in STEM fields across Nigeria. The Consulate reaffirmed its dedication to empowering students through educational training and opportunities, urging all attendees to make full use of the resources available at BCWOA.

    Notable attendees included students from Emotan Girls Grammar School and Idia College, Benin City, as well as media representatives from ITV/Radio, ChannelsTV, AIT, Arise TV, and TVC. The YALI Network, a prominent initiative of the US mission in Nigeria, also participated in the event, further enhancing its impact on the community.

    With a total of 66 individuals in attendance, comprising 48 females and 18 males, the event was a resounding success, showcasing the collaborative efforts of the US Consulate Lagos, Igbinedion University Okada, and BCWOA in promoting educational empowerment.

    BCWOA expressed its gratitude to all partners and stakeholders involved in making the event a success, underscoring the importance of continued collaboration in driving positive change in the educational landscape.
