    *KEEP ENDURING*

    📜 *TEXT:HEBREWS 10:31-39*📜

    🔑📖 *KEY VERSE:* _*”But call to remembrance the former days, in which, after ye were illuminated, ye endured a great fight of afflictions” (HEBREWS 10:32).*_

    English evangelist George Whitefield (1714 – 1770) learned that it was more important to please God than to please men. Knowing that he was doing what was honouring to the Lord kept him from discouragement when he was falsely accused by his enemies. At one point in his ministry, Whitefield received a vicious letter accusing him of wrongdoing. His reply was brief and courteous: “I thank you heartily for your letter. As for what you and my other enemies are saying against me, I know worst things about myself than you will ever say about me. With love in Christ, George Whitefield.” He did not try to defend himself. He was much more concerned about pleasing the Lord.

    In our text, believers are encouraged to keep enduring until the end despite the persecution, trials and afflictions which came in different forms and through different sources. The first wave of persecutions came when they were illuminated by the light of the gospel. They were hated and ridiculed for making that change. The second wave of reproaches came through their association with Paul, who was classified as a rebel to Judaism. Many of the brethren endured the loss of their possessions, and some of them were martyred for their faith. They were encouraged to keep enduring, without casting away their faith and confidence in God.

    Believers are not just ridiculed, they are hated. They are often denied their rights, punished for their good works and persecuted for standing for the truth. Under such circumstances, the temptation is there to quit the faith. But the Lord is telling us to rather endure and stand in faith.

    Since we know that all things work together for good and that attempting to defend ourselves sometimes will not change the world’s narrative, we should rather endure, pray for our persecutors and continue in the faith.

    *MEDITATION*

    *WHAT TO DO WHEN YOU ARE DISCOURAGED*

    *1. CALL TO REMEMBRANCE*

    Remember more terrible situations you had passed through before and believe the present one will always pass away in triumph, v32.

    *2. ENDURE IT -THERE IS AN EXPIRY DATE FOR ALL PROBLEMS*

    No problem has eternal life. Endure it, it will soon be a thing of the past, vv32,33. Check vv32,33 to see some of the things they endured.

    *3. TAKE IT JOYFULLY*

    The best way to embarrass and shame the devil and his agents is to be rejoicing in the Lord instead of being cast down, v34.

    *4. FIX YOUR EYES ON THE REWARD THAT WILL FOLLOW*

    You have an enduring reward waiting for you on earth and in heaven when you pass your test. Fix your eyes on it, vv34,35.

    *5. CAST NOT YOUR CONFIDENCE*

    The devil will want you to throw away your faith in God. Keep believing and God will not have any choice than to prove Himself, v35.

    *6. JUST A LITTLE MORE PATIENCE*

    You have need of patience in order to receive the promises, v36. Don’t give up on God.

    *7. LIVE BY FAITH*

    Look less at the physical and discouraging things you are seeing, “the just shall live by faith”, v38.

    *8. RESOLVE THAT TURNING BACK IS NEVER AN OPTION*

    We are not of them that go back because going back is perdition, v39.

    *PRAYER POINTS*

    1. Ask for power of endurance🙏

    2. Ask for grace to be walking by faith🙏

    3. Ask for the anointing and the joyful attitude of a conquerer🙏

    4. Ask God to rebuke all the spirits of discouragement feasting on believers in the church 🙏

    *HYMN*

    *NEVER GIVE UP*

    1. Never be sad or desponding,

    If thou hast faith to believe;

    Grace, for the duties before thee,

    Ask of thy God and receive.

    *Refrain:*

    Never give up, never give up,

    Never give up to thy sorrows,

    Jesus will bid them depart;

    Trust in the Lord,

    Trust in the Lord,

    Sing when your trials are greatest,

    Trust in the Lord and take heart.

    2. What if thy burdens oppress thee;

    What though thy life may be drear;

    Look on the side that is brightest,

    Pray, and thy path will be clear.

    *Refrain*

    3. Never be sad or desponding,

    There is a morrow for thee;

    Soon thou shalt dwell in its brightness,

    There with the Lord thou shalt be.

    *Refrain*

    4. Never be sad or desponding,

    Lean on the arm of thy Lord;

    Dwell in the depths of His mercy,

    Thou shalt receive thy reward.
