    OUR PURPOSEFUL RESPONSIBILITY

It is advisable you read the text first

    TEXT:JUDE 17-25

    Jude 1:17-25

    [17]But, beloved, remember ye the words which were spoken before of the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ;

[18]How that they told you there should be mockers in the last time, who should walk after their own ungodly lusts.

[19]These be they who separate themselves, sensual, having not the Spirit.

[20]But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost,

[21]Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life.

[22]And of some have compassion, making a difference:

[23]And others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire; hating even the garment spotted by the flesh.

[24]Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy,

[25]To the only wise God our Saviour, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and ever. Amen.

KEY VERSE: “Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life” (JUDE 1:21).

Keeping ourselves in the love of God and looking forward to His unfailing mercies are noble responsibilities every blood-washed believer should undertake for a life-time. This is the way to ensure we lay hold on the promises and blessings of God unto eternal life.

The text under consideration reminds us of the need to remember the words of the apostles of the Lord Jesus Christ who warned us concerning graceless and sensual mockers in the last days, whose company we must avoid. Part of our responsibilities as watchful saints is to identify false brethren, friends, teachers and ministers who would want to lure us into sin and wisely avoid them. While ensuring this, we must painstakingly undertake the duty of building ourselves on our most holy faith by diligent and regular search of the Scriptures, personal devotional prayers and compassionate sharing of the gospel, and caring for saved and unsaved souls around us. We are to keep ourselves holy by hating even the garment spotted by the flesh.

As we live in these perilous last days, we must take heed to the sundry warnings of the Lord Jesus Christ and His faithful apostles. We must ensure that, above all, we keep ourselves unspotted despite the corruption in the world.

As we obey God’s word, the very God of peace will keep us from falling and present us faultless before the presence of His glory with exceeding joy.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Keep yourself in the love of God.

    MEDITATION

    Timely exhortations to Christian pilgrims

    1. God’s keeping power

    a. God has the ability to “keep you from falling”, v24. So no cause for fear of what the enemy can do

    b. God has the ability to make you faultless and “present you faultless before God” (not just before man), v24.

    c. He is the only wise God and any wisdom different from His and His word is foolishness, v25.

    d. Nobody has a tenable excuse for falling, failing and living a faulty life except if such a person has not tapped the divine resources needed for victorious living, vv24,25.

    Questions

Can you think of examples of saints who when they knew the power of God never fell and remained faultless till God took them? (Hebrews 11:5, I Thessalonians 2:10).

    2. Man’s deliberate responsibilities

    a. Always remember the word of God and abide by it. It is a matter of a day at a time, v17.

    b. Build yourself in the most holy faith. Once you stop aspiring and make efforts to grow spiritually, you are failing in your responsibility and you are on the pathway to falling spiritually, v20.

    c. Fervent, consistent prayers to God, v20.

    c. Always look up to God for mercy and divine assistance because your human power and wisdom cannot carry you far, v21.

    d. Keep yourself in the love of God by abiding in His word, v21, John 15:9,10.

    e. Reach out to the falling saints and sinners and help them connect with God of salvation without you yourself being polluted by their sins, vv22,23.

    Question

Which of these 5 responsibilities are you deficient in? What is your plan to meet up with the divine expectations?

    Prayer points

Give praises to God for His ever available power to keep you from ever falling

Ask God to help your faith to always trust Him a day at a time to live a faultless life before Him

Pray for grace and diligence to always play your part as listed above

Ask God for power to stand and never fall on behalf of all brethren and power to rise up for those already fallen

    HYMN Lord lift me up

    Good morning sir/ma
