TOPIC:
HOW FAR WILL YOU GO WITH GOD?
🔑 KEY VERSE:
” Deep calleth unto deep at the noise of thy watersprouts…”(Psalm 42:7).
TODAY’S TEXT
Psalm 42:1-8
MESSAGE
It was the great American poet, Thomas Stearns Elloit, who made this profound remark: “only those who will risk going too far can possibly find out how far they can go. There are millions of Christians who desire to know more of God but they are not just prepared to take the risk of wading into the deeper waters of the Holy Spirit.
David expressed it this way: “My soul thirsteth for the living God: when shall I come and appear before God?” (Psalm 42:2). Do you have the same desire? Your faith is questionable if you don’t. If you do, take a lesson from the stories of the great men and women who achieved
greatness in the faith in the past. Take Abraham for instance.
Abraham was willing to go the distance with God. From a revolutionary encounter with God in his village in Genesis 12:1-4, Abraham followed the promptings of God to wherever he led him to make sacrifices upon sacrifices until we come to Genesis 22. There God instructed him to sacrifice to Him the son of promise he waited for 25 years to beget. All God’s promises to Abraham for the future resided with the life and prosperity of this young son Isaac, but God wanted Abraham to put him to death, thereby putting out all the hopes of a glorious future for
Abraham’s posterity.
But Abraham was deep enough in his knowledge of God to understand that not even death and the grave could not vitiate the promises of God. He went out to kill Isaac fully convinced that God would raise him again from the dead so that his words would come to pass. “By faith Abraham, when he was tried, offered up Isaac…accounting that God was able to raise him up, even from the dead; from whence also he received him in a figure” (Heb. 11:17,19).
In the final analysis, it comes down to this: how far are you willing to go in obedience to the demands of faith? How deep are you willing to go in your faith? Remember, there is no big fish in shallow waters.
