IUO Celebrates 25 Years of Innovation: The Unveiling of a Petrol Minibus Steals the Show

In a grand display of creativity and academic excellence, Igbinedion University Okada (IUO) marked its 25th anniversary of innovation with a remarkable celebration of innovation and research prowess. The event, held on May 8, 2024, at the university’s Central Library in Okada, coincided with the prestigious institution’s 25th year as Nigeria’s first private university, established on May 10, 1999.

A highlight of the day was the unveiling of an innovative creation at the exhibition stands: the IUO Petrol Minibus, designed and developed by the College of Engineering for project use. Prof. Ezemonye revealed that the ongoing project includes the design and development of an electric minibus, scheduled for completion by the end of the next year.

Additionally, the Innovation Day featured the IUO Oil Palm Processing Mill, a collaborative project between the Central Bank of Nigeria and IUO set to be formally commissioned. This processing mill boasts an impressive capacity to process palm oil at a rate of 2 tonnes per hour, with provisions for future expansion.

The event’s guest speaker, Prof. Isaac Folorunso Adewale, emphasised the continuous nature of innovation, labelling it as the driving force of progress and excellence. He praised IUO’s commitment to academic excellence and innovation, underscoring the university’s dedication to creating an environment where innovation can flourish.

I really can’t wait to see the unveiling of the electric minibus, it reminds me of metro.
